This was a fantastic meeting between the current 2005 Wimbledon Robert Heath Heating Dons and a team of former Wimbledon Dons lead by one time team manager David Croucher and former skipper Chris Hunt. The former Wimbledon Dons team was made up of former Dons and 2004 pairs champion Barrie Evans along with Barrie were Chris Hunt and Dan Giffard. Former Dons Andre Cross and Jon Stevens were programmed to ride but unfortunatley Andre fell at Oxford whislt riding for Sittingbourne last thursday and is currently out of action with a bruised back, and Jono was not available therefore their places were filled with two riders who although have not ridden for Wimbledon but are Plough Lane favourites were Ben Powell and Rob Hollingworth. In the reserve positions were current Wimbledon riders Lee Strudwick and Martin Elliott. Unfortunatly for Martin his bike failed on the line in heat 2 and unfortunaly put him out for he rest of the meeting. This meeting was a very close contested match when in heat 1 Former Don Barrie Evans raced to a heat win in a very quick time of 62.1 over Scott James and James Clement. Barrie showed all at plough lane that he hasn't forgotten the quickest route round the plough lane track, and that he is getting Premier League experience. Heat 2 saw the new signings Andrew Bargh and Danny Betson take a 5-1 avantage over Lee Strudwick as Martin Elliotts bike seized on the line. Ben Powell and Rob Hollingworth gained a 4-2 over Collyer and Wright to bring the score closer. Heat 4 saw Lee Strudwick being brought in as a reserve replacement for Martin Elliott. Buzz shot straight out the gate ahead of old favourite Dan Giffard, and with Danny Betson getting ahead of Strudwick the Current Dons went 2 more points ahead. Heat 5 saw the former Dons kick back with Barrie Evans and Chris Hunt. At one point it looked like the result of this race would be a 2-4 to the former dons unfortunatley for the current RRH Dons Peter Collyer spun and he fell as his bike went up the fence and he was in second place. This gave the former Dons 5 points, making the scores level on 15 point a piece. Heats 6 and 7 were shared heats with Dan Giffard gaining 3 points over Scott James and James Clement in heat 6 and Buzz gaining the 3 points in heat 7 over a fantastic race against Ben Powell and Rob Hollingworth. Heat 8 saw the Current RRH Dons take avantage of the former Dons only being able to track Lee Strudwick. Danny Betson gained his first heat win for the Dons as he shot out the gate ahead of Andrew Bargh. Andrew was able to follow betson home for a great 5-1 victory. Heat 9 saw an unsatisfactory start and Andrew Bargh was warned by te ref to stay still at the tapes. Dan Giffard shot out the tapes in the re run and with Lee Strudwick gainning 3rd place the Former Dons closed the gap in the scores. Once again heat 10 and 11 were shared evenly when James Clement rode his socks off to beat Ben Powell and Rob Hollingworth. This time out in heat 11 Buzz got the better of so far unbeaten Barrie Evans and Chris Hunt. Heat 12 once again saw reserve Danny Betson and gate well and Matt Wright coming home behind Betson to give the Current Dons another 5-1 beating Ben Powell and Lee Strudwick. Heat 13 was the race of the night well worth the admission alone when Barrie Evans and Buzz Burrows, and Dan Giffard all shot from the tapes. With Buzz on the outside and Barrie off the inside and Dan off gate 3, Barrie and Buzz shot to the front in no time. Buzz managed to get the drop on Barrie to hit the front. There was battle all the way between Barrie and Buzz, however Buzz didn't put a wheel wrong and managed to go over the finish line 1st. Heat 14 saw Rob Hollingworth took a race win over Andrew Bargh and Peter Collyer. In Heat 15 this was a repeat performance of heat 13. The only difference in heat 15 was that Danny Betson lined up on the inside of Barrie Evans instead of Scott James, and with Giffard off 3 and Buzz off 4 this was definatley a race not to be missed. Buzz and Barrie did a repeat manouver from the gates and with Danny Betson and Dan Giffard fighting it out between them for 3rd and 4th places this was a great race to end the night on. Buzz once again got the drop on Barrie and Betson managed to get passed Giffard and hold him to 4th place, a great ride by Danny Betson to help the current RHH Dons win the meeting by 48 points to 42.
